Yes, that is BACON.

I've heard it said that bacon makes anything taste great. And while I do love bacon, I wouldn't have thought everything. On a recent season of Top Chef, one person made bacon ice cream and I can't say my taste buds were humming at the thought. But this delicious creature below, ABSOLUTELY tastes great with bacon.

With Audrey down for a nap and B getting dressed for a BBQ, Mike & I headed downtown with plans for a stop at the famous Voodoo Donuts. Not being very hungry I was willing to take a risk on something new and unusual, and so my curiosity at the bacon topped maple bar (typically my favorite donut, without the bacon) won out.

People. People! PEOPLE!!

It was TO. DIE. FOR. If you like bacon and you like maple bars, then give this one a try next time you're in Portland, OR. First off, the maple bar itself was probably the best I've ever had. And then add thick slab cut maple cured crispy bacon on top? UH-MAZE-ING. The texture and saltiness of the bacon only enhanced the sweet maple-y doughyness of the bar.

I could go on and on and on about this, but instead, I'll leave you with the photo. Again. Only bigger.

Hmmm... I agree that bacon makes everything better and I can imagine how it could improve a dough nut, but I'm just not sure...
I guess I could give it a go. Especially since that bacon looks YUMMY! and that dough nut does look like an especially good one...

i have to say the picture makes me gross out a bit, but your absolute love of it has peeked my curiosity enough to give it a try the next time we ride by voodoo.

I agree w/ Abs that the picture kinda sicks me out but I'm glad you liked it! Not sure I'm daring enough to try it next month when I'm back in Oregon though.

It has to taste better than it looks. It HAS to!

I sat for a long time looking at this photo, without reading what you wrote, trying to figure out what the hell I was looking at. It looked like a bunch of peanut butter with a slab of bacon on top. I was disgusted but intrigued. After reading you glowing review of "the maple bar from heaven" I have to say, I just might try this.

I sent the link to Carlos too, and he will probably be serving this up for breakfast on Saturday, if not sooner.

We'll be in Portland in Sept. and I am going to make the Osborns take us there.

Bacon and donuts might be my pickles and ice cream.

If only one could somehow add beer to the mix, it would be the perfect food!
