Little Earthquakes

I woke up at 4:27am this morning to a little earthquake. It turned out to be a 3.4 just 4 miles north-east of Monrovia. Noone else has said they felt it so I must be a light sleeper.

As a child, eartquakes didn't really scare me. Sure, there was that moment of heart-pounding surprise as they usually came in the middle of the night, jarring you awake. After a while though, if they didn't last very long or seem very strong, I didn't even bother to get out of bed to stand under the door frame.

The weird/sad/depressing/pick-your-adjective thing was the first thought I had after the earthquake this morning was that if there was a big earthquake that collapsed walls or generally wreaked havoc, I was all alone in my little apartment. Now, upon further consideration I remembered that a.) I live in a complex where half my highschool now lives (ok, so just 6 old classmates/friends, plus all the neighbors I know), and b.) one of my sisters lives a 5 minute walk from my place so I could likely just go there.

But I was nonetheless sad for a minute or so, wishing for someone to share earthquake destruction with. One of the benefits I have to look forward in being married, I guess.

You are absolutely right. I have you right next door. If the walls fall down, we'll become one apartment anyway. :-P

Actually Kelly I am in an even sadder position, because at 4:27am my husband has already left for work. Therefore, I was all alone with a child. Now don't you feel bad for me.

Um, yeah, that would be sad. And much, much scarier cause you have to worry about keeping Emi safe too. Ok, you win! :-)
